On Saturday, May 6th the West Catholic Community gathered to celebrate the schools 100th year. Almost 400 Alums, Faculty and Staff, Students and other members of the school community attended the Gala at Springfield Country Club.
The evening opened with cocktails and school memorabilia/spirit wear available for purchase through a silent auction. Once the program began, the school President, Paul Colistra remarked on West Catholic and it's proud history. He ended with the following paragraph:
"West Catholic is not just important to us. West Catholic is not just important to Philadelphia. West Catholic is important to the world.
Know that as your school leader, I take very serious my responsibility to educate young people. Today we celebrate. But tomorrow, I challenge you to turn your celebration into support – and join the momentum that is propelling West Catholic into one of the finest urban, Catholic high schools in the country."
Following Paul Colistra's speech, former Principal, Sr. Mary Bur led the attendees in prayer, and former President, Brother Richard Kestler gave a toast to the school
After dinner a video was presented by BoatHouse Pictures. The video, titled "Decades of Distinction" represented key stakeholders and alums from throughout the schools history who shared their thoughts on West Catholic and it's recent history.
Following dinner a live auction was hosted by our emcee for the evening, James Murray '56. The auction raised over $50,000 to support the school and it's mission.
Thank you to all of our sponsors who were influential in making the night a success. A special thank you to the Gala committee and to the Gala Chairs, Tia Pratt, PhD, '95, Jessica Wolf Dasher, and Kay Kidwell '02.
