West Catholic’s curriculum is faith-centered, academically challenging, and future-oriented. It is designed to prepare young men and women for success after graduation. Our college preparatory program features a wide variety of electives and includes over sixty courses developed to challenge students to realize their full academic potential.
Academic Level:Students in the freshmen year are placed in two academic levels based on their seventh and eighth grade marks and their categorical national percentiles on standardized tests. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are either in the Honors or College Prep.
Credits: All courses are one credit courses unless stated otherwise within the course description.

Requirements: All students must take four years of English Language Arts at an academic level determined by the department and the administration. All students are required to complete summer assignments.
To improve standardized scores on the Terra Nova, PSAT, and the SAT, the English Department stresses an on-going program consisting of sentence error analysis, timed readings, and SSR(Sustained Silent Reading). To foster and encourage effective writing, all students participate in the Laws of Life essay contest, funded by the Templeton Foundation. Summer reading is also required. For honors courses, there are also mandatory written assignments based on additional summer readings.
Requirements: All students must take three years of Science.
Requirements: All students must take two years of the same world language. Note: Two years is the minimum requirement; three in the same language is recommended. All languages are means through which we learn about various peoples – their nations, customs, and attitudes; their contributions to the social, economic, political and religious aspects of life.
Requirements: All students must take three years of Mathematics.
Requirements: All students must take four years of theology at a track level determined by the department and the administration. All students attending West Philadelphia Catholic High School must take theology course regardless of their religious background.
Health / Physical Education
Requirements: All students must take a full year of Physical Education and Health. This is a requirement set forth by the State of Pennsylvania.
Business / Technology
Requirements: All students must take a course in Technological Communications I or Technology Applications I.
