Burrs Spread Christmas Cheer Through Service

Service is a cornerstone of a Lasallian education. As St. John Baptist de la Salle said, “God expects you to touch hearts”. Here at West Catholic, our students and staff live the words of St. John Baptist de La Salle by serving others. Throughout the Christmas season our students took the time to volunteer throughout the community and help spread Christmas cheer to those in need. Listed below are just some of the events that our students took part in.

The Black Student Union, in partnership with the West Catholic Parents Association, visited the St. Ignatius after school program for a Christmas Party, and held a Christmas toy giveaway at West Philadelphia Achievement Charter School’s first grade class.

The Boys Basketball team traveled to the Martin Luther King Center for their Children’s Christmas Dinner Pageant. The evening was developed to give disadvantaged children a total Christmas experience. Our students dressed as Wise Men, Super Heroes, and even the Grinch!

The Lasallian Interact Club volunteered at the Saint Francis Inn serving food to the homeless. Saint Francis Inn is a Eucharistic community called to minister with the poor and homeless of Philadelphia.

Finally, the West Catholic Alumni Association in partnership with Secret Santa helped some families here at West Catholic who were in need. Santa and his elves visited families from our community in need and delivered gifts and Christmas spirit.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who took the time this Christmas season to help others!
