West Catholic Preparatory High School is excited to announce the addition of 7 new staff members, and 9 new faculty members for the 2018/2019 school year. “I think once you read through the backgrounds of the candidates chosen you will be impressed with what they will bring to West Catholic Prep. I’m proud of our administrative team, which led a thorough interview process to find the best candidates. The fact that we attracted and were able to hire such a strong list of quality educators speaks to the reputation of the school.” Said West Catholic Prep President, Paul Colistra. Joining the school in administrative and staff roles:
Mr. Justin Bangs will join as the Director of Student Life here at West Catholic Prep. A resident of Philadelphia, Mr. Bangs graduated from the University of Florida, then the University of Cambridge, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. Mr. Bangs comes to West Catholic Prep with a wealth of experience in developing and leading award-winning academic programs for both high school and university students.
Mr. Darryl Blodgett has been hired to serve as the Burr Family Coordinator. Mr. Blodgett joins us from KIPP schools where he served as the Assistant Principal of Culture for the past seven years. Mr. Blodgett’s educational career spans 20 years, with 12 of them as a school administrator.
Mr. Jacob Diehl has been hired to serve as the Assistant Director of Admissions. Mr. Diehl is currently enrolled in the Ace-SJU program and is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University. Mr. Diehl is currently attending Neumann University to attain his Masters in Educational Leadership.
Brother John McDonnell, FSC will join the Institutional Advancement office here at West Catholic Prep. Brother John is a 1967 graduate of West Catholic and 1972 graduate of LaSalle University. Brother John served as President at West Catholic from 1989-1999 and has spent time the past twenty years serving at LaSallian Schools in Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Jamaica.
Ms. A’Shia McIntosh will serve as an intern in the Institutional Advancement Office. A resident of Philadelphia. Ms. McIntosh graduated from Bishop McDevitt in 2015 and now attends Neumann University where she will complete her undergraduate degree in Business Administration/Human Resources in May of 2019.
Mrs. Lauren Vague Stager will join the Institutional Advancement Office as the Director of Major and Planned Gifts. Ms. Stager holds her B.S. in Criminal Justice from Eastern University. Ms. Stager comes to West Catholic Prep after serving as the Business Development Manager, and currently serves on the Board of Broad Street Ministries.
Mr. Wallace Weaver has been hired as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. A resident of Philadelphia, Mr. Weaver is a graduate of Bishop McDevitt, then of Seton Hall University. Mr. Weaver has spent his past four years teaching, first in Newark NJ then at KIPP in Philadelphia.
Joining the schools faculty:
Brother Richard Buccina, FSC will return to West Catholic assisting in the Art Department. Brother Richard also serves as the Postulancy Director for the Christian Brothers at Jeremy House in Philadelphia, PA.
Mr. Michael Bryson will join the Math department. Mr. Bryson is a native of Pheonixville, PA. Mr. Bryson holds his bachelors degree from Penn State University.
Brother David Deradoorian, FSC will teach Theology at West Catholic Prep. Brother David previously taught at La Salle College High School and St. Raymond High School in Bronx N.Y. Brother David holds a master’s degree in Theology from La Salle University.
Ms. Jisu Jeong will join the Science Department at West Catholic Prep. Ms. Jeong graduated from Temple University as member of the inaugural class of TUTeach Program, a STEM teacher preparation program that originated from the University of Texas. Ms. Jeong has taught in various schools of the Philadelphia School District. For the last 5 years, Ms. Jeong has been living in Seoul, Korea teaching students of the international school.
Ms. Katja Karcezewski will join the Theology Department here at West Catholic Prep. Ms. Karcezweski received her undergraduate education at Franciscan University, earning her Bachelor’s in Theology, Catechetics, and a concentration in Youth Ministry. Ms. Karcezewski spent six-months doing missionary work for SOLT, teaching 10th-grade Theology at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Benque, Belize and held a previous position at Archbishop Caroll in Radnor, PA.
Ms. Amy Kohout will join be joining the Health and Physical Education Department. Ms. Kohout is a 2013 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School then went on to study Health and Exercise Physiology at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.
Brother Kyle Mena will teach theology and assist in the Campus Ministry office at West Catholic Prep this coming school year. Previously Brother Kyle taught Theology in the Bronx, N.Y at The Academy of Mount St. Ursula. Brother Kyle is a 2016 graduate of Seton Hall University and holds his bachelor’s degree in Biology and Catholic Studies.
Ms. Tess Patiño will join the Social Studies department here at West Catholic Prep. Ms. Patiño is a native of Columbia, Maryland until moving to the Greater Philadelphia Area for college. Ms. Patiño attended Eastern University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History and a Social Studies teaching certification.
Mr. Walter J. Walsh will join the mathematics department here at West Catholic Prep. Mr. Walsh has taught mathematics previously at Holy Cross High School in New Jersey. Mr. Walsh holds his bachelor’s degree in education from LaSalle University and master’s degree in education from Arcadia University. Mr. Walsh is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Mathematics from Rowan University.
Ms. Aliesa Weatherly ‘11 will also be joining the Math department. Ms. Weatherly, a 2011 West Catholic graduate, began teaching in the Chester Upland School District following her graduation from Lincoln University. Ms. Weatherly is currently earning her master’s degree from Cabrini University.
Ms. Megan Yeager will join the English Department here at West Catholic Prep. Ms. Yeager recently moved to Philadelphia after teaching English at Maine Endwell High School for the previous 3 years. Ms. Yeager graduated from SUNY College in 2015, then received her master’s degree at Binghamton University in 2017.
