Members of the West Catholic family came together on Tuesday, November 22nd, to celebrate the feast of Thanksgiving with a prayer service. The service began with Mike Field, the school campus minister reading from the gospel of Mark about the leper being healed by Jesus.
Following the reading, Pastor David Fitzgerald ’04 who led the service spoke of his time at West, and how much his life has changed since then. He spoke of himself as a leper, and how he turned to Jesus to help him. Pastor Fitzgerald encouraged students and faculty to accept that they have flaws, and to embrace that and to accept help from others who might be able to help overcome that flaw. At the end of his time on stage Pastor Fitzgerald asked any student who might like to come on stage and pray with him to do so, and almost half of the student body joined him on stage for one final prayer.
Throughout the service members of Pastor Fitzgeralds church played instruments, and students from the West Catholir Choir, under the direction of Mr. Larry Toft performed. Following the service alumni, board members, parents, and guests joined us for a small reception in the Library.
Students and guests who were in attendance were touched by Pastor Fitzgeralds energy and passion. His love of West Catholic and his love of God were both inspiring to see. Happy Thanksgiving to All!
