West Catholic Holds Veterans Assembly

On Friday, November 10th the West Catholic Alumni Association hosted a Veterans Day Mass and Assembly here at West Catholic.  Mass was hosted for our Alumni guests who represented every branch of the Armed Services.  In Mass, Father Anthony Hangholt’s homily spoke of the sacrifice of Father Vincent Capodanno who served in the Navy Chaplain corps.  Father Capodanno while serving in Vietnam was killed as he administered last rights to Marines during battle in September of 1967.

Following Mass guests were invited to the school auditorium for a school wide assembly.  We were joined by three Gold Star mothers.  Rhonda Worthington, Carol Todd and Rose Corr.  All three are members of the Gold Star Mothers North Penn Chapter, and Rhonda currently serves as President.  Rhonda addressed the student body, to explain what being a Gold Star family means, and the history of the Gold Star Mothers organization.

After the assembly the Grotto, which has made its return to West Catholic was blessed by Father Anthony Hangholt.

The day ended with a reception in the recently renovated West Catholic Student commons.

Thank you to the West Catholic Alumni Association for all of their hard work on the event, and of course, thank you to all those who have served or continue to serve our country.
